Syktyvkar State University, established in 1972 and named after the Russian-American sociologist Pitirim Sorokin, is the leading university in Syktyvkar and one of the largest higher education institutions in North-West Russia. Currently, it serves over 9,000 students and employs more than 600 academic staff members.
In March 2009, the university launched the Sorokin Research Center to focus on research and publication of archival materials related to Pitirim Sorokin from international sources. Additionally, Syktyvkar State University is affiliated with the Russian Mineralogical Society.
The university comprises 12 institutes that offer 154 educational programs across various levels. This includes approximately 30 bachelor’s degree programs and 26 master’s degree programs in disciplines such as natural sciences, technology, law, humanities, arts, education, medicine, and economics and management. The university actively engages in international scientific collaboration in areas including ecology, biology, chemistry, medicine, economics, philology, and art and design.
In addition to these specializations, the university is involved in nearly 40 international scientific educational projects and regularly hosts international and nationwide scientific conferences.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission to Syktyvkar State University
- Educational Qualifications: Students must have completed their 10th and 12th grades from a recognized educational board or institution.
- Minimum Marks: A minimum of 50% in the 12th grade is required, with subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or an equivalent.
- Age Requirement: Students must be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the admission year.
